Victory Day was celebrated in Moldova

On November 8th, an event dedicated to Victory Day took place in the “Victory” Square near the Azerbaijani Embassy in Moldova. The event was attended by the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova Mihail Popshoi, the Ambassador of the Brotherly Republic of Türkiye Uygar Mustafa Sertel, Deputy Director General of the Moldovan Agency for Interethnic Relations Nicolae Radita, political analysts Vitalie Andrievschi and Ruslan Shevchenko, representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited to Moldova, public and political figures, leaders of national communities and members of the Azerbaijani diaspora.

On the occasion of Victory Day, a ceremony was held in the “Victory” Square near the Embassy to unveil the bas-relief of Molla Panah Vagif - Azerbaijani poet, 18th century Azerbaijani statesman and vizier of the Karabakh Khanate.

Speaking at the event, Azerbaijan Ambassador Gudsi Osmanov honored first of all the memory of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Azerbaijan, thus giving this victory to the Azerbaijani people.

The Ambassador remarked the military parade that took place in Khankendi city today and called the victory in the 44-day war a source of pride for our people, the restoration of historical justice and the triumph of international law. The diplomat noted that despite Armenia's destructive and aggressive policy towards our country, Azerbaijan is committed to the peace agenda. The Ambassador also spoke about the large-scale construction and reconstruction works underway in the territories liberated from occupation and informed that under the "Great Return" program, former refugees - real owners of these lands are returning to their homes.

The Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, Mihail Popshoi, congratulated the Azerbaijani people on the occasion of the great holiday and noted that the Republic of Moldova has always consistently supported and supports the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan and this is mutual. He expressed his hope that the Transnistrian conflict will be resolved peacefully in the near future, which will give an impluse to the development of the region.  In addition, Mr. Popshoi noted about the development of friendly and cooperative relations between Moldova and Azerbaijan, and highlighted the exemplary and active work of the Azerbaijani diaspora in Moldova.

The Ambassador of the Brotherly Republic of Türkiye, Mr. Uygar Mustafa Sertel in his speech, described the victory in the 44-day war as a victory of the whole Turkish world. He said that our people who share the same origin, language, religion, culture and historical ties are always by each other's side in both happy and sad days.

In his speech, Vitalie Andrievschi, a well-known political analyst from Moldova, described Azerbaijan's victory as historic and stressed that it was achieved thanks to the tandem of a strong leader and the unity of the people.

The next speakers were Deputy Director General of the Moldovan Agency for Interethnic Relations Nicolae Radita, President of the Azerbaijani Congress of Moldova Elchin Bayramov, political analyst Ruslan Shevchenko, active diaspora member Maarif Rahimov and leaders of national diaspora organisations.

At the end of the event, guests were offered Azerbaijani cuisine.

A photo exhibition dedicated to Victory Day was also held at the embassy.
